Hi guys,
This is my first blog and I've been undecided on what to blog about. I have too much to talk about.... I've decided to start with my favorite things. My experience this past weekend had to do with one of them.
I love kids. They are just the best. I haven’t always loved kids. According to my mum, I was one of those kids that didn't like having a sibling. You can't really blame me for that. I mean, I was an only child for 6yrs... She said I even accused her of not loving me cos she put my baby sis in my old cot…like I could still fit in it. Don’t worry I love my sis now. It took some time though.
Thinking back now, I thing my love affair with kids started the day my goddaughter was born May 8th 2000. I was there right after she was born and she was the cutest the baby I’d ever seen. Actually, I haven’t seen one cuter. She had this curl on top of her head that wouldn’t be brushed down…kinda like the munchkins in the Wizard of Oz. I held on to her and wouldn’t let go, didn’t let anyone hold her for like an hour. After that I started working at the nursery in church. For the next 4 yrs I watched kids, ages 0-4 yrs, once on Wednesdays and twice on Sundays. My most memorable day was the day I had 13 kids to watch. Yes, 13 kids all under the age of 4. Usually I had someone to help and also a volunteer parent but on this day I had neither. To make it even more interesting, I had the heaviest baby ever who just refused to be put down. My arm hurt for a week. I learnt a lot about kids though with that experience. I think it made my mum happy, preparation for “you know what”.
So anywayz, one of my uncles has three daughters and for years I’d been asking him to bring them over to spend the weekend. Well, he finally did this past weekend. So I had three girls, Charlie’s angels, Ages 8 to 12, my brother and two of his friends to hang with.
Friday
We didn’t do much. After work I went to this networking thing called First Fridays (that reminds me, I need to order business cards). Imagine going to a networking event without business cards. It really wasn’t all that for me, maybe cos I’m shy and everybody seemed to know everyone else. There were little groups of people here and there. So I just hung at a table with my friend and “observed”. There were lots of “banker looking” people, dressed in tight clothes (guys and girls). I will never understand why Nigerian guys, especially bank boys, like wearing tight fitting clothes. But I got to see my godfather, hadn’t seen him in a while. So after a couple of hours, I went home to meet Charlie’s angels. It was definitely different having girls that age over screaming and talking about boys and who kissed who. At that age, I was kinda scared of boys. They told us then you could get pregnant just hanging to close to a boy…lol… We gisted for a little bit and I went to bed.
Saturday
We woke up, got dresses which seemed to take them forever, stuffed ourselves in my little Honda Civic and went out for breakfast and then did some shopping, video games, paper dolls, romance novels… After that, we went out for pizza, went to visit my friend that just had a baby (yes, all of us) and then we went home so I could get ready for a friend’s dad’s 70th birthday, which had an unexpected effect on me but that’s a story for another day. Got back home and went straight to bed…
Sunday
We all went to church, yes all of us in my little car. We then went out for lunch, bowling and then watched Pink Panther 2 at the movies. I slept through half the movie, saw the beginning part and the end but the parts I saw were quite funny. We then went out for Ice cream and went home. Was supposed to go for a baby dedication after, but just couldn’t make it. I had a visitor later, which was nice. Always nice to hang around people my age.
So that was how my weekend went…and that's my first blog. Hope you enjoyed it.
The next one will be on my family….
See ya
